Mental Health Counselor

Cate is a licensed educational psychologist (LEP) who earned her M.A. and Education Specialist Degree (Ed.S) in School Psychology from Tufts University. She has experience supporting children and teens who have anxiety, depression, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and other mental health challenges. As a mental health clinician, her work is modeled after a client-centered, strengths-based approach. Cate also draws from and incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) techniques and practices into her work.

She is a passionate advocate for LGBTQIA+ youth and their families. Drawing on her experience supporting transgender youth in a school setting, Cate can partner with families as they navigate the many layers of their child’s transition.

For the last four years, Cate has worked as a school psychologist in the Greater Boston Area preschool, elementary, and middle school settings. She has a strong interest in supporting middle school-age youth. In her school-based role, as part of the special education evaluation process, she specializes in completing psychological evaluations as well as small group and 1:1 social skill instruction and mental health counseling. She currently works full-time for Dedham Public Schools. At Ely, Cate conducts comprehensive psychological evaluations for families in order to gather information about student learning profiles, strengths, challenges, and target areas for intervention. She then uses data collected to identify relevant goals, objectives, and accommodations that support a learner’s academic and social-emotional success. While Cate specializes in directly supporting youth, she also serves as a consultant to caregivers, families, and outside professionals as they navigate the special education process. Additionally, she works with parents to provide support, guidance, and education through a parent coaching model.
