Intake Virtual or In-person - The Ely Center
Intake (Virtual or In-person @ Ely):
To begin the evaluation process, caregivers meet with Cate for a 60-minute interview to understand your child’s background and the current evaluation questions. This interview is designed to gather information about your family and your child’s developmental history to further understand their current profile from an academic, cognitive, medical, and if applicable, social-emotional standpoint. In addition, questionnaires are sent to caregivers and your child’s school for completion.
Intake Virtual or In-person - The Ely Center
Assessment (In Person @ Ely Center)
Assessment (In Person @ Ely):
Evaluation blocks are reserved for Saturday mornings @ Ely. The evaluation is broken up into multiple assessment appointments ranging from 90 minutes to 3 hours at a time (depending on client needs and stamina). Based on various factors, families can expect to dedicate 4-8 hours to an in-person evaluation. During these appointments, your child will participate in multiple assessment measures. Assessments include Intelligence Quotient (IQ), attention/ working memory, executive functioning, verbal reasoning, visual-spatial/motor, language, and social/emotional/behavioral functioning. Academic components can also be included if relevant. Once the evaluation questions have been developed, the assessment measures are identified to gather targeted information about each child.
Feedback 60-minute session (In-person @ Ely or Virtual)
Feedback 60-minute session (In-person @ Ely or Virtual):
Cate will interpret the results and provide families with a comprehensive written report once the evaluation is completed. Before the feedback session, families will be sent an electronic copy of the evaluation results. After families have had a chance to review the report, Cate will meet with caregivers to explain the findings. Her evaluations identify diagnoses and areas of strength and make specific recommendations for supporting your child best. Cate can also meet with children separately to explain their learning profile at a developmentally appropriate level.
Feedback 60-minute session (In-person @ Ely or Virtual)
Why Might I Consider Having My Child Evaluated?
Psychological evaluations incorporate cognitive, academic, behavioral, and emotional assessments to understand a child’s needs better. By having your child evaluated, Cate can partner with your family to determine what factors may impact your child’s performance, presentation, behavior, and overall well-being. Cate completes initial evaluations and updated assessments when a child has been evaluated previously and has documented diagnosis.
Who Is A Good Candidate For A Private Evaluation?

Having your child evaluated is an important step in understanding their needs and helping to increase support and interventions within school-based settings. Most families choose to share assessment results with schools so their children can be considered for Section 504 Plans, Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs), and SAT/ACT accommodations.
